Ah, who woulda thought? That’s Michael Armstrong performing a glockenspiel, mellotron, and vibraphone version of the Eagle’s famous “Hotel California,” on a new series of CDs called Rockabye Baby! from Baby Rock Records. These are “Lullaby Renditions” of not just the Eagles, but Bjork, The Ramones, Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, U2, Nirvana, Cold Play, Metallica, and the Beach Boys, too.

And there are another dozen recordings lined up in the wings. Really, the possibilities are endless. What a great idea. Imagine getting your bath to:

And if you think about it, the music, without the lyrics (all the albums are unsung), is engaging and compelling, and can easily translate into a melody for warding off all the scary or unsettling things about going to bed, or the lazy haze of waking up, or the simple, little miracle of coming home from the hospital. Shouldn’t every child arrive, like the new kid in town that she or he is, with a preludium like this?
