That’s Maria Muldaur, talking to her mother, and then singing part of “Fala Nina, Fala Nana,” from a new compilation of world music for the whole family titled “Brown Girl in the Ring,” just released by Music for Little People. The title track, sung by Bob Marley’s mother, Cedella Marley Booker, comes from the circle game song that’s so popular in the Carribean. And to go with it, there’s Cajun music from Papillion, the Celtic “Silkie Song,” a piece from Buckwheat Zydeco, Taj Mahal’s wonderful “Quavi, Quavi” from West Africa, a setting by Ted Jacobs of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem, “The Moon,” and other wonderful surprises all along the way. There’s “La Bamba” from Los Lobos to keep you dancing, and “Una Melodia” from Bobí Céspedes that’s right for any time or place you may wish to go to this summer.
