That’s Alejandro Escovedo with “Sad and Dreamy” — a song about a boy who’s just turned the Big One-O and is feeling his age already.
This is just one of the several dozen quirky, funny songs on a new CD for children, families, and as the liner notes puts it, “arrested adolescents everywhere.” It’s called “The Bottle Let Me Down, Songs for Bumpy Wagon Rides,” from Bloodshot Records in Chicago. Old favorites like “On Top of Spaghetti” and “Hinky Dinky Dee,” “Three Little Fishes” and “The Crawdad Song” are here, but they’re done by groups, and often in edgy arrangements that you never would have expected — like the buzz of the Waco Brother’s “The Fox”:

And Trailer Bride has the last word with their take on the traditional children’s evening prayer in their “Lullaby” which comes complete with a musical saw for all those Z’s.
