It’s Valentine’s Day, a day for flowers, and chocolates, and, of course, for observations about love — like eight-year-old Dave who says, “Love will find you even if you are trying to hide from it. I been trying to hide from it since I was five, but the girls keep finding me.” There’s Natalie, who’s seven, and has a very strong take on the subject: “Don’t say you love somebody and then change your mind . . . . Love isn’t like picking what movie you want to watch.” Or how about philosophical Floyd, who at nine years old concludes, “Love is foolish . . . but I still might try it sometime.” And then there’s the Beatles, who have given us one of our most-sung statements about love — just take it from Tasia, Kaila, Takhus, and Rebecca:

That’s the Music for Little People chorus from their CD, All You Need is Love, Beatles Songs for Kids. Now, I’m usually a purist in favor of going to the originals whenever possible. And the Beatles themselves, singing their own songs, have always been a staple in our house, for adults and kids and now for grandkids. But there is something giddy and fresh about the kid-sung versions of the group of classic Beatles songs on this recording — like the fall in a giggling pile of “All Together Now” that begins:

The CD also has that mini-life story that’s compressed into the few verses of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” in which Desmond and Molly fall in love, get married, have kids, work in the market, and keep on singing in the band. And then there is the love that helps make almost everything else get by — friends:
