Brief sound clipÂ
That’s Roland Brival singing part of his “Creole Gypsy,” which was recently a hit song in France. Along with creating music for adults, Mr. Brival, is also a painter and an award-winning novelist. He’s originally from Martinique, where he founded a performance group for children that would pass along, and thus keep alive through puppets and music the traditional stories of the island, including a famous cycle of tales about ‘T-jean, or Petite Jean. He spoke with us about this project, which he hopes will build a bridge of understanding between the children of Martinique and those of France.
